About Me

Jaimie Davies Image

Hi, I’m Jaimie — a Graphic Designer & Marketing Specialist currently based in Newcastle, NSW (after 6 years of pretending I understood Sydney traffic).

I grew up somewhere so semi-rural that a building with three storeys counted as “the big smoke.” No skyscrapers, just farmland next door and enough space that I never had to learn the fine art of not making eye contact with strangers on a train. School excursions were basically my only exposure to actual city life, so you can imagine the culture shock a few years later when I landed, freshly educated-ish, in the middle of Sydney’s concrete jungle.

Here’s the thing — I wasn’t even supposed to be qualified yet. I saw a Seek listing for an Associate Graphic Designer role while I was still a few months out from finishing my Bachelor of Visual Communication and Design. Most sensible people would’ve waited until they actually had the piece of paper. I applied anyway, on the theory that the worst they could say was no. They said yes. Cue: one very confused country kid moving to the big city to work at DXC Technology.

That job turned out to be one of the best crash courses of my life. I spent my first few months quietly shadowing senior designers like a graphic-design apprentice, soaking up everything from client instincts to “how not to panic under a deadline.” Eventually I was let loose on multi-million-dollar bid proposals — because nothing says “trust the new girl” like handing her a contract with more zeroes than her actual salary. I got to collaborate with Bid Managers, Proposal Writers, Sales Execs and Tech Leads to turn dense information into visual stories people actually wanted to look at. Then COVID showed up uninvited, restructured the whole business, and my role went with it. Not exactly the plot twist I’d scripted, but it turns out redundancy is just the universe’s clumsy way of saying “plot twist, try again.”

So I did. Since then I’ve spent the better part of a decade bouncing (in the best way) between graphic design and digital marketing — SEO, paid ads, email campaigns, brand strategy, the occasional website edit at 10pm — for everyone from a hemp-and-kombucha startup to a national office supplies group, and now as Head of Marketing running the show for SCS Australia and SCS Global. Turns out juggling a B2C and a B2B brand at once is a great way to keep your multitasking skills razor sharp (and your coffee intake highly caffeinated).

Somewhere in the middle of all that, I moved back to Newcastle, traded the CBD hustle for beach walks, and never looked back — although I did bring my slightly unreasonable love of animals with me (I refer to most pets as “the fluffers,” which I maintain is scientifically accurate). When I’m not neck-deep in campaign reports or wrangling a rogue Canva template, you’ll find me with a book in hand, wandering the sand, or hunting down something with entirely too much sugar in it.

Seven-plus years in, I still approach every project the way that under-qualified almost-graduate did back in Sydney: say yes first, figure out the rest along the way, and bring a bit of personality to work that could otherwise be very beige.

Work Experience

  • 2024 – Present – Head of Marketing – Shipping Container Services (SCS Australia) & SCS Global

The current chapter: running marketing for two very different brands under one roof — SCS Australia (B2C) and SCS Global Containers (B2B, factory-direct). I lead strategy and execution end-to-end: website and brand identity for both, product launch scheduling, and campaigns across Meta and Google Ads. I also oversee content and social media to keep the brand voice consistent no matter which audience is on the other end, and lead a small marketing team while still keeping my hands dirty with the day-to-day. Basically, if it has a logo on it, it’s probably crossed my desk.

  • 2021 -2024 – Office Brands – Graphic Designer & Marketing Specialist – Full Time

I first joined Office Brands as a Graphic Designer. I created content and designed EDM’s and Social Media Posts. I also designed Catalogue Covers, Banners and E-Spots.

In March of 2022 I was promoted to Digital Marketing Specialist. As a marketing specialist I designed blogs in html code, maintained multiple members websites with Marketing assets. Through the use of dynamic linking I created promotional Brochures that linked directly to members websites. I also updated landing pages and provided reports from Google Analytics. I worked with Suppliers on their Marketing content and gave reports on their marketing assets. I helped the CEO with filming and editing video content such as Announcements and Welcome Speeches. I also created HubSpot training sessions for our members.

  • 2015 – Student – Open Foundation

I wanted to make sure that I was prepared for University life. I was still working part- time and wanted to study whilst working to continue my professional and personal growth and the challenge of this helped me realise how much more I could accomplish.

  • 2014 – Student (Diploma of Languages)

Japanese and French were two languages I chose to study. Japanese was my major, whilst I did not succeed with my Japanese studies it taught me a great deal about myself and where my true passion lay.
